1. What current developments have led terahash to focus on heat pumps?
Our customers keep asking the same question: How can we become less dependent on rising energy costs while remaining future-proof in terms of the German Building Energy Act (GEG) and the Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG)?
With Bitcoin mining, we already provide a strong answer. As a controllable load, it helps stabilize power grids while making productive use of waste heat. The heat pump is the logical addition to our solution portfolio: it fits perfectly with what we do—combining electricity, energy storage, and intelligent control into one integrated system.
2. What challenge does the heat pump solve at Kläger Group?
Kläger Group is both our home operation and our real-world testing environment. Photovoltaics, energy management, industrial consumers, and already integrated compute power with heat recovery are all located under one roof.
With the terahash.heatblock, we complete the final piece of the puzzle: using self-generated electricity, process heat, and return-flow energy in a closed-loop system to provide heating and cooling for production halls and industrial processes. This allows us to demonstrate internally what we design and implement externally for our customers.
3. What characterizes the heat pump, and how does it differ from other heat pumps?
Five key features make the terahash.heatblock stand out:
- Supply temperatures up to 95°C, and in the SHT version, under suitable process conditions and upon request, even up to 130°C. This enables applications in the low-pressure steam range that are beyond the capabilities of standard heat pumps.
- A COP of up to 7.9, made possible through multi-stage heat recovery, resulting in exceptionally low operating costs. This is combined with the future-proof refrigerant R1234ze.
- Dual-use functionality: one machine provides both heating and cooling, effectively turning two investments into one.
- Vertical scalability of up to 127 units instead of relying on a single large system. This provides redundancy and operational reliability. Maintenance on one unit does not interrupt overall operation.
- Built-in connectivity and intelligent control based on real-time data, available in three performance classes ranging from 80 to 160 kW.
In addition, customers can modernize their energy systems gradually. The modular concept enables phased investments and flexible expansion planning—reducing upfront costs and avoiding operational interruptions.

4. What modules and accessories can be added to the standard version?
Depending on the application, we can integrate:
- Continuous capacity control
- Calibrated heat meter
- Funding-eligible configurations under certain conditions*
- Cloud-ready gateway
On the software side, available features include:
- Dual-use functionality
- External energy management integration
- Cloud Center for monitoring and remote maintenance
What makes the solution particularly exciting is that we design the heat pump as part of a broader system, directly integrating it with photovoltaics, battery storage, or waste heat from mining containers. This is where our two worlds come together.
* Eligibility for funding must be assessed individually by a qualified energy consultant.
5. Which target groups and use cases is this heat pump designed for?
The terahash.heatblock is suitable for:
- Industrial facilities
- Hotels
- Commercial real estate
- Agricultural businesses
- Energy cooperatives
The latter two segments are particularly important to us, and we are already in discussions with many of these organizations through terahash.powersystems.
Our solutions start at 80 kW, making us the right partner wherever customized energy concepts are required. We focus on projects that demand tailored configurations rather than off-the-shelf products.
6. How do the heat pump and Bitcoin mining differ?
Bitcoin mining is a financial application where heat is generated as a valuable by-product.
The heat pump, on the other hand, is a heating and cooling solution operating within a regulated energy framework, where heat is the primary product.
The customer groups also speak different languages: one thinks in terms of hash rate, the other in terms of heating load.

7. Are there any similarities?
More than many people would expect—and this is precisely why terahash is adding heat pumps to its portfolio.
Both technologies are Power-to-X applications, both depend on affordable electricity, both function as controllable electrical loads, and both can be managed through the same energy management logic.
They also complement each other perfectly. The waste heat generated by a mining container provides exactly the source temperature at which a heat pump can operate most efficiently.
For us, mining and heat pumps are two sides of the same coin: maximizing the value derived from energy.
8. What role does terahash take on with this portfolio expansion?
We are evolving from a compute specialist into a solutions architect for our customers’ entire energy balance.
In practice, this means we:
- Analyze the customer’s energy requirements
- Design the optimal system configuration
- Support the project as a dedicated point of contact throughout its lifecycle
Operational implementation—including delivery, installation, commissioning, and maintenance—is carried out by our established industrial partner.
This gives customers the best of both worlds: a dedicated energy and systems expert as their primary contact, backed by an experienced manufacturer responsible for operational execution.
Because our customers are not looking for a heat pump or a miner—they are looking for answers on how to use energy intelligently, efficiently, and in a way that fits their individual needs.
