terahash as part of the initiative “Bitcoin im Bundestag”

In February, the initiative "Bitcoin im Bundestag", initiated by Joana Cotar, member of the German Bundestag, was launched. Kristian Kläger (CEO of Kläger Group & Founder of terahash.energy GmbH), Roman Reher (Co-Founder of terahash.energy GmbH), and Mads Rehling (terahash team) were honored to be part of this series of events, presenting the background and opportunities of Bitcoin and mining for Germany's economic position.

Necessity of the initiative

The initiative was created by Joana Cotar, an independent member of the German Bundestag who has been advocating for Bitcoin for years. Joana has recognized the necessity and opportunities of Bitcoin and aims to provide the necessary education to counter the negative narrative surrounding the cryptocurrency. Through this series of events, she creates a solid foundation of facts through presentations by Bitcoin experts and offers neutral education on the subject. The initiative is the first Bitcoin-focused event taking place in a German parliament ever.

Joana Cotar visited Kläger Group and terahash in December. You can find the interview with Kristian Kläger and the Member of Parliament here.

terahash goes Bundestag

On February 22, the kick-off event for “Bitcoin im Bundestag” took place, and Kristian Kläger and Roman Reher had the opportunity to give presentations and co-open the event. The initiative aims to offer members and staff of the Bundestag a chance to learn more about Bitcoin. The first event served to spark interest in the subject and provide a foundation of basic knowledge. For terahash, this initiative is a unique opportunity to directly influence and engage with decision-makers.

While Roman Reher explained the importance of understanding Bitcoin in German politics and illustrated the potential for positive societal change through responsible Bitcoin-related policies, Kristian Kläger presented the economic and environmental opportunities for Germany as a business location, positioning Bitcoin as an ESG technology and energy infrastructure. He demonstrated the potential of Bitcoin to harness previously unused energy resources and enable companies and infrastructure operators to work economically while improving their environmental footprint.

Mads Rehling also spoke at the Bundestag in mid-March, offering a deeper understanding of Bitcoin mining and how it can be sustainably leveraged for value creation in Germany.

Rising interest

At both events, many members of parliament, their staff, and interested citizens participated. After the presentations, discussions and open questions were held, along with networking opportunities.

The growing political interest in Bitcoin and mining is evident from the numerous visits by politicians to the Energy Lab in Neusäß over the past few months. As terahash serves as a point of contact for both business and politics, party members from the FDP, the Greens, and the CDU/CSU have visited to gain a better understanding of Bitcoin technology and mining.
